Why did you decide to study in Japan?
Before coming to Japan, I was interested in famous Japanese fashion designers such as ISSEY MIYAKE, YOHJI YAMAMOTO, COMME des GARÇONS. From that time on, I wanted to go to Japan. I was attracted to their unique approach and style, all different from the European ones. I came to Japan to study fashion four years ago, when I was 25. After I came to Japan, I was quite surprised that there were many designers I had never heard of. Especially, when I learned that Yui Hashimoto, the designer of my favourite brand ETHOSENS, was from ESMOD, I just decided to enrol without hesitation.
What are you learning in ESMOD? What are you making use of?
Personally, I think that ESMOD is the world’s best environment to think about fashion, to learn to select materials, and also to study design method and pattern making. There are only few students in each class, so we have a lot of time to communicate with the teachers. Also, it is possible to solve any problem quickly by talking with them directly. Last but not least, the guidance is accurate and very helpful. I have to study from early morning until late at night; my student life is hard and I do not have enough time. But since I decided fashion will be my future job, I am trying to concentrate efficiently on design and to better manage my time.
What is your message to those who are planning to enrol at ESMOD?
People who dream to work in the fashion industry and launch their own brand should be ready to make sacrifices. If you have a good vision of what you want to do in the future, the experience you will get in ESMOD will surely be useful.
